OVERVIEW

This lecture will give you an overview of oral advocacy particularly its history, nature, elements, traits of a successful advocate, trial advocacy, preparation for oral argument before trial courts, and other court levels, and dos and don’ts during oral argument.

The pointers in this lecture were gathered from the experience of the lecturer as trial lawyer for 30 years and appearance before the trial courts (1st and 2nd level), Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan, Court of Tax Appeals, and the Mount Olympus of any lawyer – the Supreme Court, both division and en banc.

Knowledge of how to prepare and actually argue before trial courts is extremely valuable as this will help lawyers win their cases.
