This course serves as a practical guide on the effective utilization of plea bargaining in OSEC cases. 

It emphasizes the basis and motivation behind advocating for plea bargaining as a child-protective strategy to balance the prosecution’s duty of ensuring perpetrator accountability and duty of care for OSEC survivors.  

Learners get to know how to apply trauma-informed mindset in pursuing plea bargaining in OSEC cases. 

They also learn the considerations, best practices, and limitations (e.g., non-negotiable crimes, commensurate penalties, avoiding dropping charges, and non-application to syndicated crimes) of plea bargaining, and review how penalties are fairly computed in plea bargaining agreements.

Jasmin Guiuo-Diaz, an Assistant City Prosecutor at the Office of the City Prosecutor-Iligan, brings decades of experience to her role, particularly in the Family Court. She's a member of the Regional Anti-Trafficking Task Force X, and an alumna of the International Law Enforcement Academy and the US Department of State's International Visitors Leadership Program. She transitioned from private law practice to public prosecution, specializing in OSAEC Cases and Human Trafficking. Prosecutor Diaz is a formidable force in her office and a passionate advocate of a just and equitable society, especially for children. She is a devoted mother, wife, and daughter.
