OVERVIEW

Whenever a sports dispute arises, applying general laws and doctrines and looking at an association’s rules and regulations are the key to successfully resolving it.

At the end of this course, you will be able to determine why field-of-play calls or decisions are rarely appealable in the judicial system, and how sports disputes may and can end up in courts for dispute resolution. You will also learn how to properly classify the employment status of professional athletes through a four-fold test and the importance of knowing association, federation, or league rules. Finally, you will learn more about the Court of Arbitration—the leading body for settling sports disputes.
